Email Virus labeled "skydiveiowa"

Recommended Posts

BEWARE
I got a wicked virus from an email that SAID it was from "skydiveiowa" nothing else no .com or anything. There is an attachment only and in the subject it says Re: other than that there is no subject and nothing written in the email - body, just the attachment.
If you click on the attachment - your house will blow up - not really - but dont do it ---- for the curious...
FYI- Its called the New_Napster_Site.MP3.zlo(29.0 KB)
Just dont open it, and for the Love of God use protection on your computer.
Uncle Norton caught it. Remember to delete temp internet files also and cookies while you are at it.
I am repeatedly hit with the JS.Exception.Exploit virus.
Especially on the 18th, 24th of Feb. and other dates.
W97M.Class.A.Gen virus.12/4
W32.DlDer.Trojan virus. 1/7
Just so you know any one of these are trouble.
I personally know from experience that folks who dont even know it are attacked and pass these on innocently. Some programs/virus will send it to everyone of your friends on your email list and you have no idea it even happened.
So, I am triple protected and firewalled out the wahzoo.
My WEBSITE is wiped out again. No virus -Thank you. A certain person accidently/on purpose deleted it = no site.
Non related rant:
I was just about to put the coolest stuff ever on there. Super sweet videos I have worked weeks on .........without Quades assistance I might add, although I have been frustrated enough to IM him. I gave up on Premier 6, Studio DV, lozer programs. I am now on Vegas video something for the last 3 days and i almost have clipped out 18 seconds. But not yet, still working on it.
Why -Cause I refuse to read directions. And even if I did I did I would refuse to go by them. Ask my 1st grade teacher if I ever once in my whole life followed directions or my JM for that matter.
Also on my site I was going to put the Live Boobies, and full nakid AirAnn web cam... but since its been down... i changed my mind.....Sorry.
So anyway... ... Just say NO to Computer Weirdness

Ya know.... but an inkown extensin will usually give a computer fits as to what it should do with it. IF it doesn't know what the ext means, it will ask you. After that, it's your own fault if you get infected with it
More than likely, the attachment had little to do with it. Ann? Using an MS e-mail program???
Make up your own ending, let me know just how you feel....

*Jeez Ann, why do you seem to constantly be being hacked?*
there's a good question. seems there are a few pesky computer geeks/hackers out there that get off doing this sort of thing to others for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Ever hear of I love You? .vbs extension. Your computer knows just what to do with that. Run it as an application. But lots of people got it because they assumed if it's not an .exe it's not an app. Also there are ways to make a file look like it has a certain extension in an email (like .txt or .htm) while the file actually has an extension that your computer executes as code.

Exactly, there are plenty of extensions that your computer knows that you dont. If interested go look at all the file type registered in the registry. If you don't know how to get there, then you don't need to be there. But plenty of file extentions like .pif, .com, .reg, .dll you don't know what they are, but your computer surely does. And a box will NOT come up asking if you want to run it. Why? because those are used for internal system calls all the time, and if it asked you ever time, you would throw it out the window.
Sorry to hear about your site Ann, maybe you should fire your hosting company.

Oh yeah, I've heard of it....
Pulled my company's network off the Internet and WAN for two days to keep it from spreading...
AND thanks for proving my point. VBS= Visual Basic script and thanks to MS, OUTLOOK AND OUTLOOK EXPRESS knew EXACTLY what to do with it.. I can gauruntee you did NOT CATCH the virus if you were using another e-mail program.
Make up your own ending, let me know just how you feel....

By the way it is
"Infected with w32.Badtrans.B@mm
files\content.IE5\OTEVWDQB\New_Napster_Site.M.zlo"
My site is cool, no virus, the webmaster accidently deleted it. LOL -But not the first time its been down, I am used to it. Now the provider has php issues and that doesnt make me happy when most of my stuff is in php. Oh wait... it got deleted, ......
Ok [some of my site stuff] is in my head, (even more dangerous). But mostly I have it on a FTP site, or in a file I labled Stuff 1, or Stuff 2, or Misc 47.
Heh, I will just run adobe Photoshop and make the thumbnails and pics automatically and put up the other stuff and some new cool stuff. Etc.. And deal with the video editing which is [periodically] fun.
And Yes, I am often hit with viruses.
It could be for alot of reasons. I visit some sites that are iffy occasionally - not to make you think porn or anything, but they are unusual kinda. (I am working on a project for some professional skateboard folks) So, I could pick them up there or I visit other countries web sites. Lately, Job websites.
Then I get email from around the world so there is no telling where this came from and it doesnt matter. I refuse to believe that I am so important that someone would single me out to treat special. So, it could be going around.
Mainly- Just wanted to warn others about this one.
Hey- Ferret is exactly right, on www.fuckmicrosoft.com it will tell you about files you dont know about. See, told you I go weird places.

I am "identified" dang it. I will change my name.... AnnAir
Actually, I think I tended to lean that direction in the 'Rescue the Dogs' thread.
......badly treated dogs and I had the greatest plan ever. You know, go in at night snatch the puppies into pillow cases, paint my face with grease paint -green,black... and I think it was Clay who mentioned that black leather would be the attire appropriate for my mission. Then smoke bomb the place run like hell and leave the state to come home. Booty in the back of the SUV, possibly with a Vet. Non-Associated with the event......... Stuff like that......

INAE*, but everytime someone mentions Bill Gates or Microsoft, the giant fungo bats come out and the bashing starts. From that I conclude that he and his corporation are the most despised person and organization known to those who are experts. And yet, MSFT closed up $1.23 today, ~ 2%. And I doubt this is their last up day.
So who is so hot for Bill?
* Im not an expert
Just take it one day at a time, like the drunks do.

Personally... After being raised on vaious from of DOS, Windows, and Linux (Early versions of the raw kernal at school) I've stuck with Microsoft for all my Personal computing. The major problem with the instability comes when you install all those cute little screensavers and games that are freeware or alter the OS. I've had 9X machines go 90+ days in constant use with out rebooting. 2000 servers cranked to 140ish before I had to bounce it to install a Service Pack. My XP at home is getting near 90 days of the worst possible abuse you can think of. Microsoft takes a lot of undue heat due to the indivialism that most programmers want in their OS's. MS locks you out of most the stuff and there is little you can do about it. And in terms of bugs... Linux and Unix have 2 times the bugtrac incidents as all the MS products do.
Part of my 401k in in MS and I can't be happier about the damn company. I just wish I had bought into them about '92ish... I could be jumping year round on the intrest off that stock.
BTW... Jpg and Gif's can be altered to carry code in them too. Thats one project that the Government looked real hard into recently. If simple email attachments were being used to carry code or text to "terrorists" worldwide. An altered picture will open fine with a graphices program, but open it with a special text editor, and you can read secret messages. Code can be started via this too if you wanted it to be.

Phree,
I agree with you. Images can certainly be altered to carry code. Not the best cryptographically, but it can be pretty good as far as the obscurity. Messages can be sent back and forth using external means such as newsgroups, where you can't eaily track who viewed what, like you can with e-mail.
There was a case recently that had to do with images and coding. It was regarding the deCSS dvd or something. If the code was put into an image's computer-stored representation, does the graphic image itself fall under the first amendment, basically allowing the lawful distribution of the code? It will be interesting to watch how all this sort of stuff turns out.
